On the cover of the book was a picture of Rakesh Sharma, the first Indian in Space. As soon as Barun started reading the book, he forgot all about his sadness. Barun came to know that Rakesh Sharma was born in 1949 in Patiala, in the state of Punjab. He was educated at St. George’s Grammar School, Hyderabad and Kendriya Vidyalaya Tirumalagiri, Hyderabad. He joined the National Defence Academy as an Air Force cadet in July 1966.

On 3rd April, 1984, Rakesh Sharma went on a journey to space on Soyuz T-11, a space shuttle. He spent seven days, twenty-one hours and forty minutes in space.

MY FAVOURITE HOBBY

Hobby is an activity that gives one pleasure and peace of mind. My favourite hobby is drawing. I that gives of draw in my leisure time. I enjoy drawing cartoon characters the most. I use water colours, crayons and HB pencils to draw. My father encourages me the most about drawing. He keeps my drawings which he finds the best, in his office cabin. I gift my drawings to my friends on their birthdays. I wish to become a painter when I grow up.

MY DAILY ROUTINE

Daily routine is something that we all follow in our day to day life. I also have a daily routine that I follow. Something in our day to day life. I get up at 7 O’clock in the morning. Then I brush my teeth. After that, I take my bath. I have some nutritious breakfast at 8 am and then I revise my lessons for an hour. I prepare myself for school and leave for school by 9:25 am. I reach my school within 10:15 am. I return from school at 4:30 pm. I play for an hour in the evening with my friends in the nearby park. In my leisure time I watch cartoons or read story books. Then I go to study and do my homeworks. I have my dinner at 9:30 pm and go to bed at 10 pm.

PUJA VACATION IN WEST BENGAL

Durga Puja is the biggest festival of Bengal. It is celebrated in autumn. People worship Goddess Durga with her children-Ganesha, th her Kartikeya, Laxmi and Saraswati. From ‘Sasthi’ to ‘Nabami’ people worship the Goddess with pomp and grandeur. Puja vacation in West Bengal starts from Sasthi. The schools, colleges, offices and various other institutions reopen after Laxmi Puja. During the puja, pandals are decorated beautifully with lights and flowers. People wear new clothes and go pandal hopping. Some people also go for long vacations with their families to different places. People who stay abroad return to their home at this time of the year. Hence, Puja vacation is a time for enjoyment with family and friends. Every year, Bengalis eagerly wait for it.
